Pensions could kill the Retained Fire Service
The new pension scheme introduced by the government could stop any one from wanting to become an RDS firefighter.
From 6th April 2006 newly employed firefighters who are awarded a pension due to suffering an injury at work will no longer be offered the full pension.

The benefit to FRA's is a financial one pure and simple but there is a moral issue at stake here when a firefighters ability to continue to carry out their primary employment is put in jeopardy with all the uncertainty which goes with it.

The RFU is making strenuos efforts to correct this injustice advising the goverment that if this scheme is allowed to continue they will very quickly run out of RDS firefighters - the backbone of the fire service throughout the country.
