HFRS Save 19 lives
ACO Kevin Butcher today paid compliments to the crews who attended the recent incident at Milton Road, Portsmouth September.
He said
"Its all too easy to highlight when things go wrong but this incident highlighted the exceptional skills and professionalism of the pumps attending and the training they receive"
"It was a fantastic drill with 19 lives saved due to the dynamic and effective decisions made early on at the incident and the continued efforts of all involved. There were ladder pitches, some multiple to all windows of the building ensuring the greatest opportunity to all of the residents."
Unfortunately one life was lost and another casualty received serious burns.
Further details now available which all helped the incidents success include:
the first appliance was in attendance within 4 minutes
Full PDA was in attendance within 5 minutes
Pumps went from 5 to 7
The accommodation had a hard wired smoke alarm system which alerted all the residents
It is believed that the residents have received HFSV thus educating them what to do in a situation like this
This underlines Hampshire Fire and Rescues three pronged approached: Response, Prevention and Protection
This was just one of a number of incidents attended throughout Hampshire by HFRS
It should also be noted that one Portsmouth pump was not available as it was tied up on a malicious call, this should underline the potential implications of hoax calls.
In conclusion we welcome Kevin's comments, its great to hear when things go right and we offer our own congratulations and recognition to all crews both RDS and WDS who attended.
