Included in this months newsletter, was an article advising that new contracts were on their way and one of the changes therein indicated that personnel attending stations outside of contractual commitment are NOT on authorised duty and will not be covered in the event of an accident. This consequentially meant that it was our duty to warn you that should you have an accident whilst updating your RMS by attending the station, it was not duty and you would not be covered by insurance.
Local Agreement
During negotiations surrounding the implementation of the RMS it was accepted that it was crucial for the success of the system that personnel, on a continuous basis, amend the RMS availability sheets to accurately reflect crewing levels and personal commitment. This requires, when possible, attending the station outside of contracted hours and outside of the Grey Book definition of authorised duty. The RMS Service Order deems that for the purpose outlined above HFRS will consider personnel on duty. SDO Kevin Butcher personally sanctioned a local agreement.
In a phone call today Kevin advised that if the RMS was not kept updated it would affect the operational capability of HFRS, consequentially he has advised that whilst travelling to, within the premises or coming from the station to update your RMS will all be considered 'duty' and for insurance reasons you will be covered.
This is an interim measure until we hope HR correct their standpoint and we will keep you informed. |
