Congratulations to HFRS who have succesfully managed to disenfranchise a major group of their employees.
Following the results of the HFRS Rank To Role appeals process they have thoroughly demoralised and disenchanted RDS Sub Officers. Well it would be easy to claim this is just union spin and we are trying to score some points, so we will say nothing more in this article but just use actual quotes emailed to us from RDS Sub Officer OIC:

Quotes

"I feel the review from start to finish was discrimination and I have copied my initial response to the Job Eval ' Team below. Since then I have been informed that our Group Managers are dealing with it "or more plainly goaway"."

"it is a great shame that our employer does not show the same appreiciation,of the hard work and commitment that their Retained Station Managers (and I will allways regard myself as a Station Manager, despite what they say) do every day, day in, day out. "

"If it was not for the pride, and the commitment that I have for my Station, and the community that it is part of, I would have considered jacking it all in! but maybe thats what they want to happen? "

"A grim day indeed but totally expected from a management team that treat the retained with utter contept. The only politics involved is that they do not want retained Oic's to be paid more than wholetime subs (end of story)."

" I have been with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service for 30 years and have been proud to serve my community in the way we do but at this time I have never felt so demoralised and undervalued."

"I did not expect to be down graded within my rank"

" This has shown that the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service DO NOT value the work I or any other of the Retained personnel do and list me in the lowest position they could have put me in. The sad fact is that Hampshire Fire and Rescue know that we, The Retained Sub/O, are a dedicated bunch of guys and as such they can treat us how they want and get away with it, because we don`t go on strike, we don`t work to rule and generally we just get on with it."
